Organic Bouquet offers carbon neutral flowers

Organic Bouquet and The Climate Trust announced today a partnership to deliver carbon neutral flowers. Organic Bouquet’s customers will now be able to purchase carbon neutral products and to learn more about climate change. The new program will help Organic Bouquet meet burgeoning consumer demand for products with reduced environmental “footprints”.

Organic Bouquet will purchase GHG offsets from The Climate Trust’s Truck Stop Electrification Project. The Climate Trust will retire the offsets on behalf of Organic Bouquet. The offsets will count against the emissions associated with air cargo transport of flowers from Organic Bouquet’s international growers.

“Transportation, and especially air travel is one of the fastest growing contributors of global climate change. Matching our Truck Stop Project offsets with emissions related to transportation of Organic Bouquet’s flower deliveries is a perfect match,” said Bjorn Fischer, Business Development Manager at The Climate Trust.

By going carbon neutral we take our commitment towards sustainability to the next level, and by partnering with The Climate Trust we could team up with a high quality provider in the growing offset market,” said Claudio Miranda, Vice President E-Commerce at Organic Bouquet.

Organic Bouquet is the first organization of its kind to voluntary address the climate impact of their products with high quality offsets. Organic Bouquet’s flowers are grown and harvested using practices that aim to improve the quality of farm working conditions, minimize damage to ecosystems, conserve biodiversity, and enhance environmental quality for future generations.

Offsets are a readily available instrument of mitigation strategies to reduce the impact of global warming. Since beginning its offset acquisitions in 1999, The Climate Trust has placed 92% of its funding into programs. Only 5% has gone to general and administrative and 2% to fundraising. The Climate Trust secures GHG offsets according to standards ensuring environmental integrity and quality, while at the same time being cost-effective and meeting or exceeding other statutory performance requirements. In addition to reducing global GHG emissions, The Climate Trust offsets increase investments in clean technologies, create jobs and contribute to sustainable development.
